Recycling paper products saves you the landfill or transfer station tipping fee. Recycling aluminum cans pays you money. Check your local recycling centers to see if they have a program for reycling glass as well.
Recycling may be set up in two ways: using dumpsters and using roll offs. Your local garbage company can set up an 8-yard dumpster for MSW (municipal solid waste) or garbage (essentially food stuffs).
A second dumpster can be set up for paper (and cardboard) products only. The dumpsters for the regular garbage (MSW) have side sliding doors or slant top lids. The recycling dumpsters have narrow slits in front which force people to break down boxes before they insert into the dumpster. Bulky items will use up valuable space if not crushed. A 30 yard roll off can be provided for aluminum cans.
Your local garbage company will empty the MSW into frontload trucks as arranged. They will bring their paper dedicated recycling truck to empty that particular dumpster. The roll off will be “on call”. When it is full of aluminum cans you can request a “pull and return” to bring it back to your event or a “final” when you are done.
If your event is large enough, you may set up roll offs for the MSW and recycling instead of dumpsters. These containers are 20 feet long, 7’11” wide and 4 to 6 feet high. They can haul large amounts of debris.
Recycling the paper and the aluminum cans will reduce your disposal costs. Regular garbage (MSW) is more expensive to dispose of because of landfill and transfer station tipping fees.
